think you know your customer? think again.

A lot of people think they know who they’re selling to.
They’ve got some stats, maybe an idea of a “target audience.”
But here’s the reality…
If you don’t know your customer's actual problems, you’re just guessing.
Real growth? It starts with knowing why they’re coming to you in the first place.
So here’s what to do:
Step 1: Get clear on their pain points
Grab a notebook and write down one specific customer’s story.
Not just the basics.
Think about what they’re actually dealing with.
What’s one thing keeping them up at night?
What’s the problem that’s got them searching until they find you?
Step 2: Find out where they are
To really understand them, go where they’re talking about these issues.
That might be Reddit, Discord, maybe a small Facebook group.
Look for places where they’re discussing things openly.
Step 3: Listen to how they talk
This is big.
As you’re reading, pay attention to the words they’re using.
Are they frustrated? Hopeful?
Write down some exact phrases they use.
When you know their language, you know how to connect with them.
Step 4: Show up to help not to sell
When you start joining these groups, don’t pitch right away.
Answer questions, drop a helpful tip, share some value.
Trust builds when people see you’re there to help, not just to sell.
Step 5: Make it easy to stay in touch
Once they start trusting you, don’t let the connection drop.
Get them on a quick email list, offer a free guide, or just follow up.
Give them a reason to stick around.
If you think you know your audience, put it to the test.
Write down a profile based on a real person you talked to.
If it feels like just numbers and stats, you’ve got more work to do.
And that’s fine.
The people who get this?
They’re still growing five years from now, while others are burning out.
