Buying a Star Wars Business + Pocket Fund Updates

Welcome to This Is Bizness: The Fifteenth One

The meme to rule all memes

Welcome to another edition of This Is Bizness, your weekly newsletter that explores the world of buying and selling small businesses outside traditional channels.
Today I wanted to give you guys an update on Pocket Fund. We just reach 50 members which is like almost 5% of CMC which is really weird.

We’re planning to buy a Star Wars business which I think will be pretty fun to run. The business is pre revenue and really cheap at $3,000 so I’m hoping to show that you can find businesses with lesser money and be successful with them.

Bizness Breakdown: Star Wars Media business

Asking Price: $3,000

Overall: 8/10

This tri-weekly newsletter delivers the best Star Wars content right to your inbox.

It curates awesome Star Wars products from around the internet!

Let's take a closer look at this unique business 🔎

Business Model:

Revenue is generated through ad sales and affiliates.

The business is basically pre-revenue since the previous owner hasn't put much effort into monetization.

With a subscriber base of 6,000 and an open rate of 48%, this startup has the potential to attract sponsors and negotiate solid deals.

Growth and Monetization:

To maximize growth, focusing on monetization will be essential.

1. Sponsored Content: Reach out to Star Wars-related companies and offer sponsorship opportunities

2. Exclusive Deals: Partner with Star Wars merchandise sellers and negotiate exclusive discounts for subscribers

3. Our own Merch: Create and sell limited edition Star Wars merchandise exclusively through the newsletter

4. Affiliate Marketing: Joining affiliate programs of popular online retailers that sell Star Wars-related products

5. Fan Community Memberships: Offer premium memberships by providing exclusive content and the opportunity to interact with other fans

Media Assets:

Facebook Page: 40,000 likes

Newsletter: 6,000 subscribers

Insta + X: ~10,000 followers

Asking Price: $3,000 (6x revenue multiple)

While the previous owner hasn't reported any profit, the monthly revenue stands at $20, indicating some potential.

Ratings:

Growth & Scalability: 3/5 (Potential for monetization through sponsors)

Risk: 4/5 (No known competitors, but pre-revenue and requires marketing efforts)

Price to Value: 4/5 (Reasonable asking price, but revenue potential needs to be tapped)

Innovation & Tech: 2/5 (Relies on Beehiiv for newsletter management)

Overall, this Star Wars newsletter startup offers an intriguing opportunity.

While it is currently pre-revenue and requires marketing efforts to monetize, it has a dedicated subscriber base and a proven track record with a decent open rate.

The low asking price provides an accessible entry point for a potential acquisition.

Bizness Pros:

- Established brand and subscriber base

- Opportunity to get creative exploring various revenue streams

- Creative marketing strategies can be implemented to attract sponsors

Bizness Cons:

- Limited monetization efforts by the previous owner

- Requires time and effort to build and scale the business

- Pre-revenue and untested market

With the potential for revenue growth and the ability to leverage creative marketing strategies, this startup could become a valuable asset.

Most importantly tho

This seems like an extremely fun business to run where we can get really creative with marketing and growing it.

It's pre-revenue and available for very cheap

I have chosen these factors on purpose^

Most people are afraid of pre-revenue businesses and complain that micro-acquisitions are only profitable when you look at larger startups

I hope that through running this business with Pocket Fund we can help people realize that these are just arbitrary barriers created by their fear

The opportunities are out there for people to take advantage of them!
